I'm the new editor of Public Library Journal! This is the leading professional journal covering public library issues. Unlike some other publications of this type it also has a reasonable amount of academic credibility.

You are on the fast track to becoming the most successful librarian ever, I can feel it!

Was it hard getting in?

No, it was oddly easy! I just wrote an expression of interest saying what I would do if I were editor and then I got an email today saying I'd got it! I think it probably helped that Briony already knows me and that I am reasonably competent etc. I don't know if you have much of a public library focus or not but if you do, I'd love an article from you!

How dignified! I have never worked in a public library, so don't think I could feasibly write anything on a public library subject, sorry. I'll happily write you a piece on bees or cake though... just say the word.

It did occur to me that an article on beekeeping might be just right. We did actually have a bee colony at my previous library, though not deliberately. They lived in little holes in the ground!

By the way, I was also thinking that Drew and I should visit you some time and see your flat that you live in. Good idea/Bad idea?

Don't want to take up lots of your busy journal editor time, so we could just drop around for a cup of tea, or go for some cake in a local cafe...

You should definitely visit! I'm not editoring yet so I don't have that time constraint currently. But I can't really plan anything properly until I get all my PhD proposals in on Friday because my head is all messed up and full of nasty academic words that are eating my brain. I'll check my diary at the weekend when I can breathe again! Were you thinking weekend or in the week? Matt is here sometimes also so you could see him too!

Thank you! I am resisting the temptation to turn it into a vehicle for left-wing propaganda ;-) though I can quite justifiably include lots of articles on diversity issues.

Here are some missing word titles:

Library is the ------------- star
Reading through the --------------
------------- by love
From peer to --------------
Top ten young -------------- uncovered

(number of blanks is no indication of actual word length - that would make it too easy!)

Anyway, I don't know what you mean, public libraries are genuinely very exciting and who wouldn't want to read a journal about them?! ;-) Thanks for the congratulations also :-)

Thank you!

I'm well. I'm super-busy, constantly, it just seems to get worse and worse! I'm working in Enfield Public Libraries (north London) with a big focus on getting teenagers into the library. And I'm putting in a PhD proposal any day now - just remains to be seen whether I get funding!

How are you?
